Served in Company I of the Fourth Minnesota Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War.306 Mustered in at age 21 on October 23, 1861 and mustered out December 26, 1864.309 The 1890 Veterans Schedule has him entering the service on October 1, 1861 and being discharged December 19, 1864, for a total of 3 years, 2 months, and 15 days. He has no health complaints.368

In 1875, as A J, 33, living in Kasota with Frank, 27, Arthur H, 8, F L, 5, and unnamed, 1. A J was born in Ohio, his father in Virginia, and his mother in Ohio. Frank/Grant was born in New York, his father in Connecticut, and his mother in Vermont. A J’s children were born in Minnesota, their father in Ohio and their mother in New York. 370

In 1885, as A J, 44, living in Cordova with wife Sarah, 37, and children Arthur, 18, Fred Lee, 15, Gertrude L, 11, Carrie May, 8, Otis, 4, and Eve Ann, one month. A J was born in Ohio, Sarah in New York, and all the kids in Minnesota. 371

In 1890, he lives in Sharon.368

1895, living in Sharon, Minnesota. He is 53, daughter Sarah is 35, and son Otis is 14. He’s a farmer, and was a soldier in the ‘War of Rebellion.’372
