In 1915, he married Carmela Ziniti. He was 27, single, a barber and lived at 244 E 109th Street. She was 19 and lived at the same address.They were both born in Italy.477

In 1918, as Ferdiand (sic), he is 29, married, and lives at 1686 Park Ave in Manhattan. He was born September 29, 1887 in Messina. He works as a barber at St. Vincent’s at 1684 Park Ave . He lists his wife and mother as dependents. He served as a private in the infantry in Italy. For exemption, he cites bad eyes, bad back and a wife. He is described as white, short, medium build, blue eyes, brown hair, and slightly bald. 478

In 1920, as Fred, he is 32 and working as a barber in a shop. He lives at 1686 Park Ave. His wife Mellie is 24 and was born in New York. Ferdinando says he arrived in 1912 and was naturalized in 1919. They are both able to read and write.481

In 1923, he was 34 and a widower. He lived at 2457 84th Street and worked as a barber. He listed his birthplace as Messina. Teresa lived at the same address and was 16. She was born in Manhattan. Her parents were witnesses.482

In 1930, as Alfred, working as a barber in his own shop in Roselle, NJ. He is 42, his wife Teresa is 22, and they were married at 35 and 15. They live in a rented house at 114 Myrtle in Roselle with their son Dennis, 1 month. They pay $55 in rent and own a radio. He was born in Italy, she in New York, and Dennis in New Jersey. He says he emigrated in 1909.483

In 1940, he lived with his son Dennis, 10, as a lodger in a house at 312 East Third in Roselle. They live with Ralph W. Bloom and pay $23. Ralph, 39, is from Pennsylvania and lived in the same house in 1935. He has an 8th grade education and works as a boiler operator at a chemical plant. He takes home $1,000. Ferdinand, 40, is a naturalized citizen with an 8th grade education. He is a barber with his own shop. Son Dennis A., 10, has completed 5th grade.

In 1942, as Ferdinando Alfred, he is 54 and was born September 29, 1887 in Messina, Italy. He lives at 524 East 2nd Ave in Roselle, where he also runs a business. His telephone is RO 4-5357M.
