In 1900, as Hank, living in Blount, Tennessee with his widowed mother Betsey, 47. He is 14 and his siblings are Susan, 17, Ellis, 6, and Mattie, 23. Living with them are Mattie’s husband William Crumble, 35, and son Claud, 2. Betsey and Daniel had 9 of 12 children survive. Everyone and their parens are from Tennessee. Betsey is a farmer and William a farm laborer on the farm they own free and clear.107

In 1908, at time of marriage, he was 22 and a painter living in Sumas, WA. No previous marriages.68

In 1910, as Hank, lived on Grover Street in North Lynden with wife May L. He is 23, and she is 17. They have been married 1 year. Their son Robert is 2 months. Hank was born in Tennessee and his parents in the US. She was born in Wisconsin, and her parents in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Hank is a house painter on his own account. They rent. They live with/near (no house numbers!) Lula Mae’s grandparents George and Philena. 91

In 1920, as Joseph, lives at 1811 Alabama Street in Bellingham City. He is 33, and Lillian is 24. His family is from Tennessee and hers from Kentucky. Hank works as a barber in a barbershop on his own account.108

In 1930, as Joe H., lives on a farm in Laurel, Kentucky. He is 44, wife Lillian is 33, and their children are Jean, 9, Betty, 8, and Golda, 4. They were married at 33 and 22. He and his parents were born in Tennessee, her family is from Kentucky. Jean and Betty were born in Washington and Golda in Kentucky. Joe is a barber in a barber shop.109
