As Giov Cavaliere, 38, aboard the Assyria from Mediterranean ports on July 2, 1874. He is a confectioner.148

In 1880, as John, 45, living at 215 25th St. with wife Gracia, 42, and children Angelo, 20, Joseph, 18, John, 16, and Mary, 12. He is a cook in a hotel, Angelo is a carpenter, Joseph a tailor, and John is a barber. He has been unemployed six months this year. Only Mary can read and write.145

In October of 1886, living at 377 Water Street when he is naturalized in the Common Pleas Court. He works as a grocer, and his former nationality is Italian. He does not provide a birth date. Says he arrived in June, 1871. His son John Cavaliere, Jr., living at the same address, is a witness.149

In 1889, living at 377 Water Street when he and his wife witness their daughter’s marriage.

In 1920, he lived at 116 East 119 with his daughter Maria, 49. He was 92 and a widower. He said he arrived in 1867 and was naturalized in 1869. She says she arrived in 1874 and was naturalized in 1900. Maria works as an operator in a dress factory.

As John Cavaliere, 87 and widowed, kills himself with rat poison in 1920. He dies of phospheron passing? with a parenthetical note about hospital refit?. His father’s name is listed as Carlo? Cavaliere and Mary Giordana (Giordano?), both born in Italy. He has lived in the US for 40 years and was a laborer . His normal residence is 116 E 119. His brother Frank Cavaliere hires the undertaker.150
