He was 26 when he married, and was a shoemaker. She was 20.

Arrived in 1898 at 31 from Gioiosa Marea, a married shoemaker with $3. Going to stay with brother-in-law Giovannino .

Returned in 1904 on the Prinzess Irene at 38, as a baker from Gioiosa Marea. Had been in Brooklyn before from 1897-1904. Paid for his passage, disembarked with $4.12. Going to see cousins Vincenzo and Giovanni D...? at 55th Street and 6th Avenue.

On daughter Anna’s birth certificate in 1906, he was 40 and his name was Nicola. He was a shoemaker and had his own business. He lived at 585 Park Ave.265

In 1910, he was 44 and lived at 585 Park Avenue in Brooklyn with his wife and children. Marie (sic) was 38 and they had been married 18 years, with seven of eight children surviving. He said they all arrived in 1897 and he had filed papers. He worked as a shoemaker in a shoe factory. Lucy, 17, worked on vests in a factory. Millie was 16. Josephine, 14, was listed as a son, Joseph. Katie was 13, Mary was 8, Lena was 6, and Venia (sic) was 3. The youngest three were listed as being born in New York, although only the youngest was.266

In 1920, as John, he lived at 1315 Herkimer Street in a rented apartment with his family. He says he arrived in 1900 and has filed papers. He was 53 and his wife Mary was 47. He worked as a shoemaker in a shoe factory. Daughter Nancy was 25 and worked as a dressmaker in a factory. Josephine, 23, was an operator at a children’s dress shop. Katherine, 20, was a clerk at an underwear factory. May, 18, (sic) was an office clerk at a department store. They, along with Mary, all arrived in 1904 and are aliens. Lena, 15, Anna, 12, and Lawrence, 7, were all described as being born in New York. 267

Death certificate gives his date of birth as February 9, 1867 and that he was 56. He was a shoemaker in a factory and his parents were Joseph and Nancy. He’d been in New York for 25 years. His address was 1692 St. Marks Avenue. ‘Daughter’ Filomena Ferlazzo signed for the disposition of the body.263

Referenced by nephew Carmelo on December, 1924 manifest (as Nicola) as relative he’d be staying with. Last known address is 1905 4th Ave, Brooklyn in 1924.
