The 1910 census has her born in US, but she’s on the manifest in 1905, traveling with her mother and sisters.

Married at 20 while living at 1544 St Marks Ave. She is a typist. She was born in Messina, and lists her parents’ names as Giovanni Ferlazzo and Mary Napoli. Benjamin Schaeffer and Sylvia Shear witnessed the marriage.275

In 1930, lives at 1613 West 8th as May Spiegel with her husband Jack in an apartment they rent for $55. They own a radio. She is 28 and he is 29, and they were married at 18 and 19. Daughter Gloria is 7 and son Norman is 11 months. Jack was born in Russia and Mae in New York. He spoke Yiddish before coming to the US. He arrived in 1905 and is naturalized. He works as a lather in the building industry.

In 1937, as Marietta Ferlazzo Spiegel, files her petition for citizenship. She lived at 6801 Bay Parkway and was a housewife. She was born in Messina on October 28, 1901. Her husband’s name is Jacob and they were married April 12, 1920 in Brooklyn. Jacob was born in Kiev, Russia on March 30, 1900. Jacob was naturalized May 14, 1924 in Brooklyn (#2023934). Their daughter Gloria was born October 30, 1922 in Brooklyn. Son Norman was born May 5, 1929. She arrived April of 1905 on the Lombardy and has lived here since. She rejects the King of Italy and the USSR. Husband Jacob Spiegel, a dress manufacturer, and brother-in-law Nunzio Puglisi, a milliner who lived at 1573 West 4th, witnessed her petition.

On January 26, 1937, returns (6-day cruise) with Jacob aboard the SS Oriente. They were both 35. He worked as a manager. He had US citizenship; she was his alien wife. They lived at 6801 Bay Parkway. She had previously been in the US for 31 years. She was 5’6”.

In 1938, as Marietta Ferlazzo Spiegel, takes her oath of citizenship.

in 1940, she lived at 6220 22nd Avenue in Brooklyn with her family in a house they rented for $70. She was 38, naturalized, and had completed high school. Jack was 39, naturalized, and had completed high school. Jack was a manufacturer of ladies dresses and made $5,000. Gloria, 17, had completed one year of college and Norman, 11, had finished 7th grade.
