Returned from Italy July 25, 1923 on the Giuseppe Verdi, at 16. Discharged to a cousin. Passport #3727 issued by US Embassy in Rome on July 2, 1923. Address listed as 234 Elizabeth St.

6Returned January 21, 1937 (as Margherita Livoti) on SS Conte Di Savoia. Was on List 2 (for citizens) but is scratched out on manifest. Purser’s note says she transferred to List 5 (for aliens). On List 2, she is 29, married, born in New York on May 13, 1907 and lives at 238 Elizabeth Street. On List 5, she is 29, a housewife, speaks Italian, and was born in the US. For a passport/visa, she has USA Aff N.3 issued in Rome on January 11th, 1937. Her last permanent residence was Pesca (sic).
51,52In March of 1937, she filed a petition for citizenship witnessed by Peter Carydes and Philip Livoti. She lived at 238 Elizabeth Street and her occupation was ‘finisher on coats.’ She declared she had chosen no other nationality. Peter Carydes, a florist, lived at 35-36 30th Street in Long Island City. Her brother Phil, a vegetable man, also lived at 238 Elizabeth.
